Week 8: Chapter 17&18

💻📦 Marketing in Action Blog – Chapters 17 & 18

Hi everyone! 👋

This week I read Chapters 17 and 18, which talked about how companies talk to customers using digital tools. Here’s what I learned and what I think is really interesting.

🌐 Chapter 17: Interactive and Multichannel Marketing

This chapter taught me that marketing today is not just in stores or on TV. Now, it's everywhere — websites, social media, apps, emails. Companies want to make shopping easy and personal for us.

💡 Example: When I visit a store's website and see products based on what I looked at last time — that’s personalized marketing. I like it because it saves time.

Also, businesses now use many channels at once — like online stores, mobile apps, and real shops. This is called multichannel marketing. When everything works together smoothly, it's called omnichannel marketing.

✉️ Chapter 18: Integrated Marketing Communications & Direct Marketing

This chapter focused on how companies send the same message across different platforms — ads, emails, social media, and even events. This is called integrated marketing communications.

💡 It’s important because if the message is clear and the same everywhere, people trust the brand more.

Direct marketing means talking to customers one-on-one — like by sending emails or messages directly. This works really well when done right, especially when it’s personalized.

💭 Final Thoughts:

Marketing today is more than just ads. It’s about talking to the customer in the right way, at the right time, on the right device. I realized how powerful simple things like a good website or email can be when they’re done smartly.

📣 What do you think? Have you noticed how ads follow you online or how shopping apps suggest the perfect deal?

  1. Kseniia,
The answer to you question is yes I notice how websites make purchasing suggestions. For example, if I am researching dresses the website will suggest other alternatives that should interest me. I find that helpful because then you don’t have to scroll for hours. That usually has me purchasing more. So, the technology is working for the retail companies.

The ads following a consumer can be annoying sometimes. If you buy a birthday present for someone online then you show them something on your computer, the products you have been researching pop up in front of them.

  2. Hey! I totally get what you mean — those personalized ads and suggestions can be a little spooky sometimes, Like when an app knows exactly what I want before I do Marketing sure has come a long way! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
